AMD Fusion |
| When I heard about AMD fusion I was thinking "oh great another software application that claims to make games faster". Created by AMD fusion claims to make games a lot faster and when looking at the Application further you can actually see what it does, and unlike other applications that do whatever it is that they do, Fusion does a lot that actually does make games faster. I performed a Benchmark using windows 7 RC2 and fraps. The Chart below shows that fusion really does work ![]() AMD Fusion performs tasks like optimizing your Processor and GPU clocks, shutting down the network layer for offline games, turning of Aero themes and so on. Testing Machine: Motherboard : Gigabyte Ma780G-UD3H Processor : AMD Phenom II 955 Hard Drive : Samsung 1TB, Hitachi 1TB Video card: XFX 4850 512MB Sound : Onboard Sound Monitor : BenQ 22" Full HD (1920 X 1080) Game : S.T.A.L.K.E.R - Clear Sky V1.5.10 |
Review : XFX 4850 |
| Well most of you don't really know but my Radeon 4850 made by cheap old Palit failed last week and so I went in search of a replacement, here in New Zealand where I live hardware is a rather strange thing in regards to pricing, the XFX 4850 costs $201 incl GST, the Sapphire 4870 which was the next in line and the cheapest 4870 was over $90 more expensive, so taking this into account (the price and Performance gain) I decided to bite the bullet and get the XFX 4850, I believed that because it's a great brand (I had a kick a$$ 8600GT) that there would be quality memory on the card and boy was I in for a surprise. Okay so first off after I shelled out all that cash for the card the first thing I thought when I was walking out to my car was how heavy the box felt compared to the palit (pictured later in this review), the Palit was very light compared to the XFX 4850, My decision was that my main game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. that I play; I could not play with all the settings at full at my monitors resolution of 1920 X 1080, I had to play at 1440 X 900 and for me this is annoying because I would prefer about 30 FPS at a higher resolution than 50 FPS at a lower resolution. |
What you need to start liquid nitrogen benching |
| The transition between dry ice and ln2 is pretty easy. You just need to know what equipment is required. The temperature probe is not required but it is highly suggested that you get one. For intel chips you will almost always need one because you need to know the temperature at wich they cold bug.... READ MORE HERE ![]() |

E6500k unlocked multiplier in a Dual Core. |
| The e6500k was released about a month back, it is the "secret" weapon that intel pulled out of its back pocket. The e6500k was one of the last Dual Core CPU's that Intel cranked out, and it is also one of the best. It has already reached speeds of 5.5GHz under LN2 Looking at this from an extreme overclockers point of view, I see a chip that was born to be overclocked. At a cost of about $89 it is perfect for overclockers. The unlocked multipier helps get those extreme speeds out of it while the voltage leakage lets you crank the vcore to 1.9v. Even without the extreme cooling that people like myself may do, it has still reached speeds of 4.5 Ghz with just air. That is why i would label this one of the best overclockers of all time. It sits up there with the i7 920 and the Celeron 360. ![]() |
Alienware finally gets a new look. |
| Although its not revolutionary, Alienware now has a new case. They have been using the same case from when they started. Although it did look cool, it was time for an update. The new case features a micro-ATX form factor. And a i7 cpu. Starting at $2,299, seems pretty expensive, but tell us what you think. More details on their site |
Intel light peak 100 GB/s |
| If you were waiting for usb 3.0's fast speed, wait til you see this on a motherboard. At this point it has only been tested up to 10 GB/s but theoretically it will be able to hit 100 GB/s. Even at 10 GB/s you could transfer a dvd in a few seconds. The light peak has an optical module that converts light to electricity, and that is why it so so much faster than USB. Intel thinks that it can be implemented in a motherboard fairly soon. We are looking at a shipping date of 2010. |
Lucid HYDRA multi-GPU |
| Lucid came out a year ago and they said they could create a chip where you could use a Nvidia card with an ati card. It's a chip that motherboard makers will be abe to pull out of their arsenal, for the people that dont reazlly want to think about compatibility when they throw in another graphics card. The company dissapeared for about a year and now they have come out and said, "They have done it". Of course you will need a pretty beefed up PSU to run 2 gtx 285's with 2 5870's. Non the less you will get 100% performance out of both of them with this new erm... Slifire? ![]() |
Maingear ships 5870. |
| Yes it only came out a gew days ago and they are already sold out in almost every store. But maingear managed to get some to put in their new system. Right now you can configure it in the Ephex, F131, Prelude, and X-Cube (SFF) systems. For all you people that will want to puch crysis 2 and all the new DX11 games to the max you can configure up to 3 in a system. |
